In a joint political statement the Ministries of Finance of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom (G5) respond to the proposals of the European Commission on the taxation of companies operating in the digital economy.

Being able to appropriately tax the companies operating in the digital economy is a major global challenge. However, in the absence of a global consensus at the G20/OECD level we need to move ahead at EU level. By agreeing on a coordinated EU-wide approach we will ensure the integrity of the Digital Single Market. They welcome the digital tax package. The next step will be to thoroughly analyse the details of the proposals. They now look forward to constructive discussions in the Council with a view to finding agreement as soon as possible.
